Why must I stop plucking, waxing, "threading" ("band-ing"), or epliation at least 3
weeks before my treatment?
Since the above listed hair removal methods temporarily remove hair by yanking out
the hair root, it leaves no target for the laser to treat. Therefore, your treatment
efficacy is greatly reduced which is obviously unfavorable. Once you let the hair and
hair root grow back naturally, you are now ready for an effective laser hair removal
treatment. In a nut shell, when you stop plucking, waxing, stringing, or epliation, you
allow the hair to continue in a healthy hair growth cycle which is ideal for effective
laser hair removal therapy.
Why do I have to shave before my laser treatment?
Laser hair removal operates on a very simple principle: a specific wavelength of
light "goes after" pigment, which in the case of hair is called "melanin". Therefore, if
you don't shave the treatment area and just let the hair remain exposed over the
skin, the laser will first be attracted to hair above the skin. Since the goal is to target
the ROOT of the hair, the treatment area needs to be shaved so that the laser's light
can travel directly down the hair shaft and straight to the root. As mentioned before,
only shaving is allowable between treatments, NOT waxing, plucking, "stringing", or
epliation.
